Diversion's History

Diversion was initially created in Flint, Michigan in 1973.  The program was driven by a coalition of foster parents and public agencies.  The desire was to create a program that provided quality care for children, build foster parents, both as childcare providers and as individuals and was highly responsible to the needs of referring agencies.

The board reflects this interest.  Composed of collateral professionals such as psychologists, MBA’s, CPA’s and Attorneys the whole spectrum of childcare is represented.

Diversion grew from Flint, Michigan to include offices in Saginaw, Traverse City, Port Huron, Michigan and Findlay, Ohio. In 1987 the Ohio and Michigan programs separated to allow more state focused program development.  The Ohio program expanded to include programming in Findlay, Cleveland, and Cincinnati, Ohio.
